Most visitors to Orlando from Europe will now land at Sanford International airport just to the north-east of the city. Looking at a map Sanford seems considerably further away from International Drive and Disney than the main Orlando International airport.
In fact Sanford airport is well located close to the freeway I.4 making it a very rapid and direct run to the main tourist areas of the city. The main thing that usually strikes first time visitors to Orlando and its theme parks is the incredible scale of the facilities available for tourists.
The main theme parks at Disney and at Universal Studios are gigantic in scale, each taking several days to tour fully. As well as the main two attractions there are in fact hundreds of tourism related facilities around Orlando that could keep visitors occupied or two or three months.
International Drive which is home to Universal Studios is also the venue for the fun and excitement of SeaWorld as well as the massive waterpark at Wet 'n' Wild. Also on the same road are multiple small attractions including the bizarre sight of the up side down building of Ripley's believe it or not?
International drive is also home to a multitude of large-scale hotels and resorts as well as shopping malls and many restaurants and other entertainment facilities.
A car is an absolute essential when visiting Orlando; the distances although easy to traverse are by European standards considerable. International drive to the Disney facility can cost as much as $150 in a taxi.
A hire car can make the journey in around 20 to 30 minutes again the scale of Disney is incredible. As you approach the theme parks from I4 you will realise that you are now on Disney's own eight lane freeway.
Disney property is a full one third of the entire city of Orlando and incorporates multiple theme parks. A large night-time entertainment complex by the name of Treasure Island as well as a multitude of hotels to suit almost any budget.
There are multiple shopping facilities hundreds of restaurants as well as bars and other entertainment facilities outside the actual theme parks themselves. It is very easy to spend an entire two or three week holiday on Disney property without ever venturing outside for any reason.
Everything you could possibly need to enjoy a family holiday is available at Disney and even though the theme parks are 90 minutes from the nearest sea you can still enjoy a beach holiday complete with crashing waves at Disney's water themed entertainment complexes.
Orlando is the number one tourist city in the world attracting more visitors than several of the world's other major tourist attractions put together. This is one of the most enjoyable holiday locations in the world and one fact to leave you with is that a full two thirds of all Disney visitors are not accompanied by children.
